I’ve learned this lesson the hard way — and more than once.
Through hustle burnout.
Through the fear of using my voice.

In each of these moments, urgency roared at me: Do something. Fix it. Hurry.
But unless someone is bleeding or can’t breathe, I’ve come to understand something essential:
Urgency is rarely the truth. It’s often fear in disguise.
As a recovering overachiever and hustle-culture entrepreneur, slowing down when everything in me says speed up feels counterintuitive. At times, it even feels like self-betrayal.
But it’s not. It’s self-leadership.
When urgency strikes in business

The panic sets in — and suddenly, you’re scrambling to plug the leak, tweak the offer, pivot the plan, or push harder.
But here’s the truth:
Reaction isn’t strategy. Speed isn’t wisdom. Urgency isn’t leadership.
It took me years (and more than a few scars) to realize, the most powerful, grounded, and aligned actions often emerge from stillness — not from the noise of urgency.
Now, when I feel the internal push to act fast… I pause.
When I feel like I can’t sit still… I sit still.
When I feel the pull to seek approval… I return to my own authority.
This is how we lead from our center. This is how we grow sustainably — with clarity, not chaos.
Next time you feel that overwhelming urge to fix something right now, try this:
- Pause.
- Breathe.
- Ask: Is this true urgency, or is this fear in disguise?
