When I was 18 years old, I wanted to live in Europe. Subconsciously, my mind chose to believe that it was not a possibility.
I visited Europe often over the years, to travel and to visit extended family. And each time I would go, I had a growing realization that I felt very connected to the continent from which my parents and my ancestors came.
My dream got pushed aside and life took over. And as the years turned into decades, the idea of living in Europe faded into a distant memory.
Until, I was challenged to open up to the possibility of it actually happening. Once the seed was planted in my mind that anything was attainable, the dream became a possibility. And once it shifted into possibility, it was given the space to be nurtured, the creative options to blossom and the commitment it needed to become a reality.
Anything is truly possible, if you want it badly enough. Your external circumstances do not define you. Give yourself permission to stop tolerating the life and business you have, and start creating what you want. As Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”
Create the means to make your possibility an actuality by following these steps:
- Expand your idea of what’s possible for you.
- Create a clear vision of your new reality.
- Hold on to your intention with fierce determination.
- Fantasize about the different scenarios of what it could look and feel like.
- Decide to be all in.
- Commit to a demarcation date.
- Move forward with wild abandon.
- Stay open, curious and agile.
- Trust your intuition, abilities, resources, and creativity to navigate the new territory with ease and grace.
No matter what happens, you will be okay. You followed your dreams and created success on your own terms. Nothing is permanent and anything can be changed. You don’t need to remain tied to a past identity. You don’t need to keep telling yourself that same old story. Breathe deeply and know that even the smallest moment of risk and trust is difficult.
What’s one thing you don’t believe you can do right now?
What if you acted AS IF it will become a reality? How would you show up differently?
What’s one thing you would do now, that you’re not already doing?
