I received this testimony from one of my business owner clients. She said that I’m “guiding her through a marketing plan that is changing the way she thinks and approaches her business.”
This is important because Entrepreneurship is a mindset. Established and results-focused service professionals and Entrepreneurs come to me when they are ready to take their business to the next level of growth and know they need a plan and hands-on guidance to get there. That’s what they want, and I certainly deliver that, but they also get what they need – which is a mindset shift about how to approach marketing and business in general.
Perhaps your marketing has been inconsistent or non-existent. Referrals and word of mouth can only get you so far – at some point you hit a wall. And at that point, you decide if where you are is ‘good enough’ or ‘not enough’. If you want to serve more or different people, and want to make more of an impact than you’re currently able to make – then good enough is no longer tolerable. Marketing is an art and a science.
Here are two science-based marketing components that you must have in place for an effective marketing strategy:
- Qualified Buyer Profile. You need to have a clear picture of who your buyer is. All of your marketing starts with this key component. The more specific and focused you are with this, the easier your marketing will be and the more successful you’ll be at attracting your best clients. Your qualified buyer is someone who admits to having a problem and is willing to pay for a solution to get their problem resolved. (Tip: stop chasing target markets.)
- Doorway Problem. Position yourself to be seen and heard by your qualified buyer, by identifying one or two doorway problems.The doorway problem is what initially draws your client to reach out to you for help with what they want. This is the problem that your marketing communication and collateral should speak to, as it is the FIRST problem that people have for which they are seeking a solution. The first problem is what gets them in the door. (Tip: solve one problem at a time.)
If this isn’t in your zone of genius, you’ll want to get help from an expert who can look at your business holistically to determine the best strategy to support your business goals – and somebody who knows what works and what doesn’t. This is my zone of genius.
