We often think that leadership is something you’re either born with or not.
That the “real” leaders have some kind of magic in their DNA… a natural ability to inspire, influence, and lead with confidence.
While I do believe some personality types have natural leadership qualities, for most of us, leadership isn’t inherited. It’s a choice. A calling.
One we can’t ignore, no matter how inconvenient, intimidating, or imperfect the timing feels.
The Excuses We Tell Ourselves
We tell ourselves we should have stepped up sooner. We find reasons to put it off — too busy with work, family, life And deep down, the most painful reason:
We’re afraid. Afraid we won’t measure up to the vision in our head of what a “real” leader should look like.
That fear can keep us playing small for years — waiting until we “feel ready,” when in reality, readiness comes from action.
What Happens When You Answer the Call
When you finally decide to lead yourself forward, something shifts. You start peeling back the layers. You meet the version of yourself that’s been waiting to be seen — the one beyond the self-doubt, beyond the “not enough,” beyond the image you’ve been trying to live up to.
The Real Milestones of Leadership
The true milestones in leadership aren’t the external ones — the promotions, the revenue goals, the titles.
They’re the moments you:
– Allow yourself to be seen for who you really are.
– Show up fully even on the days you feel fragile.
– Lead from your truth, not from a script.
Some days you’ll feel unstoppable. Other days you’ll feel tender and unsure.
But here’s the thing — leadership will meet you exactly where you are, and still invite you to rise.
Leadership Is an Ongoing Journey
If you’re feeling the call to lead — in your business, your work, your life — remember this:
It’s not about arriving at a finish line. It’s about the ongoing, ever-deepening journey of becoming. Of finding your purpose, your people, your courage.
That’s what self-leadership does.
It empowers. It centers. It heals. It gives you the courage to step into your own power.
So next time you’re tempted to step back — remember your why.
This isn’t just about doing the work. It’s about becoming the woman who leads herself forward, again and again, no matter what!
Here’s to you, boldly and courageously leading beyond limits.
